We are very excited to announce that Switch the ‘Stat has received approval from the BC Ministry of Environment and Waste Diversion Ontario (WDO) to expand Switch the ‘Stat into British Columbia and continue running the program as an industry stewardship program in Ontario.
With the introduction of provincial regulations mandating extended producer responsibility (EPR) in Ontario and British Columbia, Summerhill Impact, on behalf of the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI), submitted plans to the BC Ministry of Environment and WDO to run Switch the ‘Stat on behalf of manufacturers responsible for selling thermostats into Ontario and British Columbia. In February 2010, the British Columbia program plan was approved by the BC Ministry of Environment, and in March 2010, the proposed “Industry Stewardship Plan” (ISP) was approved by WDO (this is the first ISP in Ontario to be approved by WDO). These approvals mean that Switch the ‘Stat satisfies stewardship obligations under both the Ontario Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste (MHSW) regulation and the British Columbia Recycling Regulation.
This approval means we will be operating in British Columbia as of July 1st, 2010! Interested contractors and wholesalers in Ontario and British Columbia can register for Switch the ‘Stat using our online form.
Switch the 'Stat is brought to you by Summerhill Impact,
part of the Summerhill group of companies.
